Breitling announced their new chronograph today, just in time for Baselworld 2009. Called the Chronomat B01, I have to say this has got to be the nicest looking Breitling I’ve seen so far. It’s a redesign of their popular Chronomat model, and it’s got some very attractive features.

The first thing that jumps out is the bezel, it’s been redesigned and now features engraved numbers instead of just lines. The face is slightly different as well, looking a bit more refined then the basic Chronomat model. The biggest change however, is something you’ll only see if you look through the mineral crystal back, and that’s the new movement. Breitling has decided to produce the movement for the Chronomat B01 in-house, and it shows. I’ll admit I’m a fan of mechanical movements to being with, but this new Breitling is something to behold. I’m hoping that they continue with this and make more and more of their timepieces with this movement.

Available in the typical array of Breitling cases, colors, and band choices, there is no word on the price at this time. Look for this at your favorite retailer in the near future.

Beck Betrayal!

Have you ever been on the way back from buying beer and find that you have been taken? I just purchased a case of Beck’s Beer arrived home and cracked the first one open, Poured it in the glass and thought hmmm.. that looks short? A short pour, the bastards sold me cans with 11.2 oz of beer in them! It’s hard enough hiding cans from my wife and now a short beer? Don’t get me wrong ponies have there place in buckets and all but not Becks! This is the second shorty case I have ran into, I hope it does not continue.

Hamilton Khaki Conservation watch is tasteful and eco-friendly

Hamilton recently teamed up with Conservation International and Harrison Ford to create the “Khaki Conservation” edition. They’ve created a “eco-friendly” version of the Khaki Navy GMT with special design elements. It’s a limited edition using recycled material for the packaging, and Hamilton has pledged to donate the proceeds to Conservation International.

The movement is a 21 jewel automatic with a sapphire crystal, and a see-through back printed with Harrison Ford’s signature and the Conservation International logo.

Retailing for around $1100, it’s one of the sharpest watches we’ve seen from Hamilton in a long time.

Urwerk Tarantula crawls across your arm

urwerk-tarantula-103t Urwerk makes some crazy watches, that’s for sure. Their latest kind of speaks to me though, so I can’t make too much fun of it. Combining a very unique design with some clever alloys, you end up with a watch that looks like nothing else currently on the market.

Featuring four “satellites” that rotate around a cross, creating a rather stunning effect when the watch changes time, as the arms rotate 420 degrees each time it updates. The designers say that the watch has been inspired by the tarantula, which seems to be a bit of a stretch to me.

Bottom line, if you want something that looks very unique, and will definitely make a statement, this may be the watch for you. There doesn’t appear to be any pricing information available online, but with this particular model being limited to a run of 60 of each color it’s one of those, “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it” situations.

Nikon D3X: the best camera on the market

Moore’s Law applies to camera’s too: there’s always going to be better one on the horizon. For now, the king of the hill is the Nikon D3X. At 24megapixels, sporting a DX sensor, you can’ t top it for image quality. When compared to the only other camera at the same level, it is clearly a sharper camera, with faster processing and a crisper image then the Canon 5D Mark II.

Snus Lipper?

Are ya familiar with the Snus? Sweden’s answer to oral tobacco or what us hicks (rural America) call dip, chew, rubb. If you never participated in the oral tobacco game you may be pleasantly surprised how good a Pris or Prella of Snus can be. This moist tobacco can cure you of the smokes, due to it has large amounts of nicotine, a Uncle Buck side step of sorts I know, but wait. No I mean Low nitrosamines are present. It’s almost health food! So Snus up Johnny, there are multiple flavors, pouches and los (loose) styles to choice from. I saw the CEO of IKEA with a big fatty pris in his upper lip, business as usual for Swedes. Gotta love it, man chaw made in vogue by ex-Vikings.

Essential? I don’t think that word means what you think it means

I’m generally curious when I see something defined as a “Fashion Essential.” Essential to what? Clearly, suits are an “essential” if you work in a place that requires suits. More generally, belts are “essential” if you wear pants (save your complaints, suspender crowd). But beyond the basic essentials there’s a lot of gray area.

Forbes, for example, has a very interesting take. Examples of “essentials” include the following:

1. Kilgour suit, retail $8000
2. Hermes reversible belt, retail $500
3. Ferragamo Raul Lace Ups, retail $525
4. Rolex Submariner, retail $5400

Sorry, but to me many of these are “Fashion Aspirations.” The basic theme, though, is correct. Your wardrobe should have items such as a great suit, a great pair of shoes, a great timepiece. Even though Kilgour, for example, might be slightly out of reach, the message from this article is a good one.
