For fear of sounding pessimistic, we think that if we ever found ourselves in a flaming jet hurtling towards the ground, we’d be unlikely to start counting seats, to take notice of our closest cabin crew nor assume the brace position.

This is why we’d die.

But, by adopting a few small tricks, it’s apparently statistically possible to go from ‘victim’ to ’survivor’.

According to the BBC, there are a few important facts that never go wrong:

  • Learn how to operate the damn seatbelt
  • Brace!
  • Get counting - the exits, the crew, the seats in front of you…

It’s that simple. While those around you will be wasting their time with hysteria, screaming and prayer, you’ll sit, cool as a cucumber, ready to show off your elite plane crash avoiding skills.
