chappelles-show-lost-episodes.jpgComedy Central’s marketing these as “The Lost Episodes”, but Chappelle fans will know that these are actually the few sketches he filmed before taking off dramatically for South Africa. Two years and various interviews later, the world still doesn’t really know why Chappelle left his show, but after viewing the three episodes hosted by Charlie Murphy and Donnell Rawllings, we can guess why—the material sucked.

Dave didn’t really have any new stuff beyond the old race jokes he’s been telling in season one and two, and none came up winners. His only winner of the three-episode season was the Tupac sketch, where Tupac “predicted” current events from 1994. Coincidentally, that was one of his few non-racial sketches of the season.

As big a fan of Dave as we are, we can’t recommend this DVD over Season 1 or 2. But if you want to figure out why he left and why he really didn’t want Comedy Central airing these, pick one up for $16.
