Guinness Gadgetry
Do you crave that fresh-off-the-tap Guinness taste but have to settle for cans and self-pours instead? Up your dark beer pleasure intake with Guinness’ new surger device, which, in addition to making you feel like a mad chemist, supposedly transforms the canned beer into a tap-worthy imitation.
The electric-powered device is said to activate the gases in the canned beer to make it seem similar to the draught version. Called a “surger”, it sends an ultra-sonic pulse through the pint glass which sits on top of it.The surger only works with Guinness Draught Surger beer which is made to the Guinness Draught recipe but with a different gas mix.

Terror From Torino
The winter olympics weren’t all fun and games. Of course, you knew that if you tried to watch any of them. From the life of a sports reporter:
Our typical day goes something like this:
Wake up with a hangover. Shower in a stall that has no walls or curtain. Wade out of the bathroom and face a breakfast meant to appeal to the lowest international culinary denominator. Get on a bus. Get lost. Get on another bus. Get to the mountain. Freeze in the security-screening line. Freeze in the mixed zone. Write a story. Eat a lunch that makes breakfast look good. Get on another bus. Go to another mountain. Freeze in another mixed zone. Complain about the wireless signal not working. Write another story. Dictate it to the office. Get on a bus at 2 a.m. Drink dinner. Get to your room at 3:30 a.m. Go to sleep in a bed built for Gary Coleman.
Repeat 17 times.

Super Strong Whisky
This quadruple-distilled, 184-proof whisky sounds like a drink for a true Scotsman. It is the kind of brutal spirit William Wallace and his pals threw back after a hard day of killing the English, and if it was good enough for them…
The distillery is engaging in the project in an attempt to replicate the Scottish drink described in a 1695 travel book, The Western Isles of Scotland, which contains what is considered to be the world’s oldest whisky-tasting note. The book also includes a warning that the drink takes effect immediately, so by imbibing any more than two spoonfuls, “it would presently stop his breath and endanger his life”.

Radar Love
Any old watch can tell you what time it is in multiple time zones, but a real watch can help you track bogies in all directions. If you find yourself too close for missiles, switch to guns!
Rats, it’s not a real radar watch, just a simulated version, with a teeny plane that appears on the ‘screen’ every 60 seconds. Shame, a real one would be really rather cool, but this will just have to do while we’re waiting. Japanese quartz movement. $49.99.

Loremo AG
It may look like something out of Time Cop, but this German stallion is no Stalone. We probably won’t see it here in the states for a good five years (assuming it ever makes it here) but the Europeans will be zipping around in these buggies by 2009.
To be shown at the upcoming car show in Geneva, this German creation claims a fuel economy of 157 mpg with no fancy hybrid drive train, fuel cells, or plug in paraphernalia. Weighing less than a thousand pounds, the sporty rear-wheel drive 4-seater is designed to be maximally aerodynamic. the Loremo sports a modest 2-cylinder, 20 hp turbo diesel motor, has a top speed of 100 mph, and does 0-60 in ten seconds. If that sounds like less than elite performance, the anticipated $13,000 price tag should put it in a bit more perspective.

Vodka With Ice
Serious ice. Expensive ice. Diamonds, to be exact. Polish vodka Diaka (diamonds+vodka) claims to be the world’s most expensive vodka. Internet sleuthing has yielded little information on the spirit, but we’ll keep our eyes and palates peeled for more in the future.
It’s actually the filtration process of the vodka that makes it exclusive. The Diaka Vodka is made in Poland where they use nearly one hundred diamonds of up to one carat in size, to filter the spirit resulting in vodka with unsurpassed clarity and smoothness. The diamond-vodka is only available by TransBorder Spirits in USA.

Buddy Holly’s Watch at Auction

Buddy Holly’s Omega is up for sale in April and it’s a beaut.
The diamond and white gold Omega wristwatch is inscribed on the back, “Buddy Holly 12-1-58,” the date his bride of four months gave it to him as an early Christmas present. It was recovered at the site of the plane crash by investigators and later worn by Holly’s father in their hometown of Lubbock, Texas.

Portly Wine
Yes, we’re jumping on the bandwagon and talking about ports–luckily this variety hasn’t been sold to any Emirates you may be familiar with. Port is a hell of a drink (fortified in many cases, meaning it will give you a haymaker when you’re expecting a jab) and though it is certainly an acquired taste, you just might acquire it.
It’s undervalued in North America, but if you ask a European, they might tell you that there’s nothing better to finish off a good meal than a nice glass of port. A rich, full-bodied wine, port is considered by many to be one of the best and most complex wines on the market today. This complete guide to port includes a brief history of this unique fortified wine, its characteristics, traditions associated with the wine, and some suggestions for a nice bottle.
As far as suggestions go, take a look at the Decadencia Chocolate Port from the Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula, California. They serve it in edible chocolate shot glasses, so check it out in person if you’re in the area.
