From WristWatchReview.com - Omega paid $350,000 for JFK’s famed Omega watch at auction yesterday.

The watch, from 1960, was a gift to then Senator John F. Kennedy from his friend Grant Stockdale before the election. With a bit of humor and perhaps some premonition, Mr. Stockdale had the back of the watch engraved with the following message: “President of the United States John F. Kennedy from his friend Grant.”

Also available at the auction were a thank you letter written by Jacqueline Kennedy to Mr. Stockdale who lauds the Omega as “nicer than the watch I gave him” and an image from LIFE Magazine of the 35th President wearing the watch on his inauguration day.

Just finished off a Quo Vadimus “Islander” from Quo Vadimus cigars. The stogie, wrapped by QV’s Grade-9 Cuban roller, was a welcome departure from the sticks I’ve been used to thus far. The cigar lit up right away and burned uniformly throughout, offering a fine finish of rich, smooth smoke. The tobacco, which gives a nice even scent of vanilla down its length, was an excellent blend. The wrapper was tight and tasty and consistent through the burn.

I lost the ash at about the halfway point and the final few inches of this 7-incher had a great draw and some excellent smoke. Best of all? Not much of a cigar mouth after I finished this one. I’ve smoked some Cubans that I’ve tasted for a few weeks, post-light up. This one came, was a pleasure to smoke, and went.

The Islander is a special blend, only available to QV friends, family, and business associates. It was quite a thrill to get one on the packet they sent over and can’t wait to try the Reserve, which is what they sell online… mmmm… smoke.

Researchers are discovering the secrets of a good beer by breaking down each bock into its constituent parts. The process, which started decades ago, is become more and more refined, leading to the age old secret of what makes a beer taste good after you pour out a little for your homies.

Studying the chemical constituents of beer is “like looking at the night sky,” he says. “The closer you look, the more stars you can see.”

From WristWatchReview.com - No sub $200 watch holds so much cachet and rapt attention as the Orange Monster. New watch collectors take note: the Orange Monster is the best way to catch the collecting bug - it is hefty, colorful, beefy, and cool. It is extremely solid, extremely reliable, and water resistant to 200 meters. Why is the Orange Monster so popular? It’s inexpensive, it’s fun, and it’s a Seiko. It’s a beater, but it’s a beater that will get you compliments.

Do what you want with your money, but I’m thinking $29,000 is a bit much to pay for a “Rare Mustard $5 Casino Chip.” This thing better have been bitten by Diamond Jim’s mistress or I don’t want it.
